See shipping detailsTangy sumac, fragrant herbs and toasted sesame in one of the Levant’s most recognizable seasoning traditions. Spice Czar Za’atar is built for the table as much as the stove, bringing bright acidity, herbal depth and nutty crunch to everyday food.
Flavor & cooking character
Bright and tangy from sumac, deeply herbal, toasted and nutty from sesame, lightly salty and exceptionally aromatic.
Za'atar is especially useful where aroma and texture can remain at the surface. Mix with oil for bread or add to yogurt and vegetables at serving. Taste before adding lemon or salt; sumac and the blend's seasoning may already provide enough brightness.
What to cook
Flatbread and manakish, labneh, hummus, yogurt, eggs, avocado toast, tomatoes, salads, roasted vegetables, potatoes, chicken, fish and popcorn.
How much to use & when to add it
1 teaspoon per serving or small flatbread to begin.
Use this amount as a starting point for flavor, then adjust to your food and taste. If other ingredients bring salt, sweetness or heat, account for those before adding more seasoning.
Kitchen idea: Za'atar flatbread plate
Mix 1 teaspoon za'atar with 1 tablespoon olive oil and brush lightly onto warm flatbread. Serve with yogurt, tomatoes and cucumber. Add a small dry pinch at the table if you want more texture, then taste before adding salt.
Culinary background
Za’atar can name an herb and also a seasoning mixture. In the blend tradition, herbs, tangy sumac and sesame are familiar elements, with regional variations. The combination is especially effective as a finishing layer on bread or simple foods.
