Salt-free shakshuka seasoning with sweet and smoked paprika, cumin, tomato and red pepper for eggs baked in spiced sauce.

Flavor & cooking character

Warm, earthy and smoky-sweet, with mild to moderate heat.

Cumin and two paprikas give the sauce its North African and Middle Eastern warmth, while tomato and red bell pepper powders deepen canned tomatoes. Bloom the seasoning in oil with the onion for about 30 seconds before adding the tomatoes so the spices open up without scorching. The blend is salt-free, so salt the sauce to taste before the eggs go in.

What to cook

Shakshuka, baked eggs, breakfast hash, tomato soup, chickpea stew, roasted eggplant, lentils and grain bowls.

How much to use & when to add it

1 1/2 tablespoons per 28 oz can of tomatoes.

Use this amount as a starting point for flavor, then adjust to your food and taste. If other ingredients bring salt, sweetness or heat, account for those before adding more seasoning.

Kitchen recipe: Skillet shakshuka

Serves 4. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Cook 1 diced onion and 1 sliced red bell pepper 6 to 8 minutes, until soft. Stir in 1 1/2 tablespoons Shakshuka Seasoning and 2 minced garlic cloves for 30 seconds. Add one 28 oz can crushed tomatoes and simmer 10 minutes, until slightly thick. The blend is salt-free, so season with about 3/4 teaspoon salt.

Make 6 wells and crack an egg into each. Cover and cook on medium-low 10 to 12 minutes, until the whites and yolks are firm and reach 160°F, as food-safety guidance recommends. For soft yolks, use pasteurized eggs and cook 6 to 8 minutes. Top with chopped parsley or cilantro and crumbled feta, and serve from the skillet with warm pita or crusty bread.
