Flavor & cooking character
A little coffee can make chocolate taste deeper before the dessert tastes distinctly of coffee. Check whether your product dissolves completely; finely ground coffee and instant espresso powder are not functionally identical.
What to cook
Brownies, chocolate desserts, tiramisu-style baking, coffee rubs, popcorn and frostings.
How much to use & when to add it
Start with 1/4 teaspoon per cup of chocolate mixture; use package directions for beverage preparation.
Dissolve in a small amount of recipe liquid before adding when a smooth texture matters.
Use this amount as a starting point for flavor, then adjust to your food and taste. If other ingredients bring salt, sweetness or heat, account for those before adding more seasoning.
Kitchen idea: Mocha yogurt swirl
Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon espresso powder in 1 teaspoon warm water. Stir into 1/2 cup thick yogurt with 1 teaspoon cocoa and sweetener to taste. Chill briefly and serve with berries or a few chocolate shavings.
