Onion powder adds flavor without pieces or much moisture. It will not create the texture or browned sweetness of sautéed onions, so use real onions as well when a recipe depends on that foundation.

French onion-style dishes, soups, sauces, potatoes, vegetables, burgers, rubs, dips and seasoning blends.
How much to use & when to add it
Start with 1/4 teaspoon per cup of dip or 1/2 teaspoon per pound of food.
Hydrate in a moist base and let the flavor develop before adjusting.
Use this amount as a starting point for flavor, then adjust to your food and taste. If other ingredients bring salt, sweetness or heat, account for those before adding more seasoning.
Kitchen idea: Onion herb dip
Mix 1/2 teaspoon onion powder into 1/2 cup yogurt with a pinch of thyme and black pepper. Chill for 10 minutes, stir, then season to taste. Serve with potato wedges or vegetables and thin with water for a dressing.
