Flavor & cooking character
Savory, pungent, slightly sweet and deeply garlicky.
Powder disperses garlic throughout a dish without leaving pieces. It supplies a different texture and flavor from chopped fresh garlic; spoon-for-spoon replacement can easily make the result too strong.
What to cook
Garlic bread, vegetables, potatoes, sauces, soups, marinades, rubs, beans and everyday seasoning.
How much to use & when to add it
Start with 1/4 teaspoon per cup of sauce or 1/2 teaspoon per pound of vegetables.
Blend into oil or a moist mixture before cooking; keep it away from prolonged direct contact with a dry, hot pan.
Use this amount as a starting point for flavor, then adjust to your food and taste. If other ingredients bring salt, sweetness or heat, account for those before adding more seasoning.
Kitchen idea: Garlic yogurt sauce
Stir 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder into 1/2 cup plain yogurt with 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Rest chilled for 10 minutes, stir again, and add chopped herbs if desired. Serve with roasted potatoes or cooked vegetables.
